The sleepy seaside town of Seal Beach is playing host to one of the the United States Navy's most technologically advanced guided-missile destroyers, the USS Dewey.

The Navy is unveiling the USS Dewey at a commissioning ceremony on March 6, 2010 at Seal Beach Harbor -- the first commissioning ceremony ever to be hosted in Orange County.

"The USS Dewey's weapons systems contain the latest technology available to the Navy," says Gregg Smith, public relations chairman of the USS Dewey Commissioning Committee.

Since the ship is equipped with such state-of-the-art features and incredible technological capabilities, it is considered one of the most advanced in its class. The price of modern technology? The ship boasts a $1 billion price tag, which covers the cost of its integrated naval weapons systems, updated combat system and offensive/defensive systems tailored to present-day warfare.

The ceremony will end with the USS Dewey's formal entry into the Navy's abounding fleet. Typically, the ceremony is open to the public, but the community showed such an incredible interest that the limited seats for the event have been filled. Though the guest list is full, you can still support the endeavors of the USS Dewey and its crew by contributing on the commissioning Web site.
