OK, so a sunset, a really good mixed CD and flowers just because are like totally hot. But on February 14, there can be no flowers just because. There are only flowers just because... it’s Valentine's Day. There is no spontaneity. And spontaneity is hot.

You know what else is hot? Not celebrating Valentine’s on February 14. Pick some other day. Did you pick Friday, February 12? Cool, because that is when Hornblower Cruises & Events is hosting a Valentine’s Dinner Cruise. This three-hour cruise through Newport Harbor begins with a Champagne welcome. The night continues with a sit-down, four-course meal. Your choice of three appetizers begins the meal, followed by dinner salad and your choice of pesto-glazed salmon or prime flat iron steak in a shallots demi-glaze. After chocolate cake for dessert, take to the dance floor or slink off to a secluded area on deck to enjoy the view.

The ship boards at 7 p.m. and sets sail at 7:30 p.m., returning at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $99 (excluding tax and gratuity).
