One of the greatest of holiday traditions is walking through neighborhoods admiring the festive lights and decor. The Balboa Island Improvement Association's 15th Annual Holiday Home Walking Tour takes this holiday tradition to another level by allowing guests to actually walk into homes to see how each house is decorated on the inside.
On Sunday, December 11, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Balboa Island, you can walk through a modern home built just this year that is completely LED lit –the first of its kind on Balboa Island – or visit a home taking you back to the days of Charles Dickens. There are a total of eight decorated beach cottages and bay-front homes, each uniquely decorated to “ignite the spirit of the season.”
“Every year is better than the year before,” says Gail Vasterling, co-chair of the Balboa Island Improvement Agency. “Sometimes we get famous people on our tour, and you never really know until after you’ve walked through their house.”
Once you've taken the tour and are armed with decorating tips, be sure to visit the shops on Marine Avenue for holiday shopping – refreshments and specials will be available at participating stores.
"The tour is a great way to get ideas for decorating your house for Christmas," Vasterling says.
