A Water Taxi for Newport Harbor?

Photo By Kevin Sullivan/The Orange County Register

Newport Harbor

Would you use a water taxi to visit restaurants, parks and other points of interest in the Newport Beach Harbor? Would tourists use a water taxi? The concept of providing a water taxi service during the summer is being studied by an exploratory committee.

One of the decisions is whether such a conveyance would run on a fixed loop pattern around the harbor or whether it would only respond to calls from users.

A water taxi currently operates in Los Angeles’ Marina del Rey, but the County of Los Angeles subsidizes the operation.

The Newport Harbor study, obviously, is in the very early stages.
