Waves at the Wedge
Hurricane Marie off the Cabo coast brought record waves to Southern California surfers on Wednesday, Sept. 27. Crowds gathered at the Wedge in Newport Beach before sunrise to catch the storm and the audacious wave riders. They were treated to quite a show all day. Surfers rode waves in the Newport Channel, as well  both Little and Big Corona State Beaches.  More showtime is expected on Thursday with things quieting down by the weekend. The Newport Beach Police shut down the Peninsula by midmorning due to the onslaught of wedge watchers.
