Southerly swells brought high waves and plenty of action to the Wedge in Newport Beach from Thursday, June 6 through Saturday, June 8. Mike Ure, Newport Beach lifeguard, reported that there were 38 rescues on June 7 with five people requiring medical care.
Hundreds of fans came to watch the surfing and wave action. Stand-up paddleboarders were able to ride waves at the mouth of the channel. There were even some minor leaguers surfing Main Beach in Corona del Mar. Parasailing and visits by groups of pelicans added to the fun.
