After another lengthy battle through a host of governmental agencies, another homebuilder has won approval for a residential development in Huntington Beach’s Bolsa Chica wetlands area. The California Coastal Commission approved Shea Homes request to build 111 single family homes on its 50-acre site adjacent to the wetlands.
To be called Parkside Estates, the site will include parks, trails and 8.5 acres of restored wetlands. Shea Homes has to meet 26 conditions imposed by the Coastal Commission before it can begin construction.
Opposition to the project was led by the Bolsa Chica Land Trust, concerned that a number of homebuilders are gaining approval for development in the area. Among them are the 68-acre Brightwater Homes, five-acre Ridge property and the five-acre Goodell property.
Shea has not yet released a time schedule for Parkside Estates.
