The 2016 BNP Paribas Open came to a spectacular conclusion on Sunday with some expected results and some huge upsets. Novak Djokovic, the number one player in the world, defeated Rafael Nadal in the semi finals and then thrashed Milos Raonic 6-2, 6-0 in the men’s final. This is his record setting fifth championship in the Indian Wells tournament. Serena Williams, the reigning number one lady’s player, lost to 2012 BNP Champion 14 seed, Victoria Azarenka 6-4, 6-4 in a stunning upset. In lady’s doubles, Orange County resident Coco Vandeweghe teamed with Bethanie Mattek-Sands to win their first Women’s Tennis Association double’s title together.
