The 66th Annual Lexus Newport to Ensenada Yacht Race began off the Balboa Pier on Friday, April 26. This is the largest international sailing race with over 200 vessels in about a dozen classes competing for glory and prizes. Sailors were pleased with beautiful, warm weather and comfortable 8-10 knot winds for most of the race.

Last year, a lethal accident marred the race. This year, the only incident involved a spectator craft impinging on the starting line, causing one boat to tangle briefly with a committee boat. The 106-nautical-mile southward course ended at the Hotel Coral and Marina in Ensenada where a grand fiesta awaited all the finishers.
