Solid wood, craftsmanship and pride are all ingredients of every piece of furniture sold at Furnishings Direct.
The store is about the only place left in Southern California that sells furniture made exclusively from American hardwoods by American craftsmen. Furniture is built from solid cherry, oak, maple, quarter-sawn oak, hickory or walnut. Because it is made here in America, modifications can be made to meet the specific needs of each customer.
Customers don’t feel pressured while in the store – not by temporary “special sales” that end on a certain date, nor by the sales staff. The staff doesn’t work on commission; instead, the goal is to provide the customer with a pleasurable furniture shopping experience and to help them select furniture of beauty and quality for their home.
In addition to the personable and knowledgeable sales approach, the after sale experience is unconventional as well. Deliveries are scheduled for and made at a specific time – no “four-hour window”. In addition, deliveries are made seven days a week, not just on weekdays. Furnishings Direct has tried to eliminate all of the negatives of the furniture buying experience to provide customers with quality, well-priced, American-made furniture that will last for generations.
Furnishings Direct is the only authorized dealer in California that carries the entire Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation licensed furniture collection, made in Vermont. Furnishings Direct’s large two-story showroom also houses four brands of Amish-made furniture, the finest Craftsman style furniture of Warren Hile Studio, and upholstered furniture from Nichols & Stone, the oldest furniture company in America.
“We’re kind of the opposite of everything that’s become the norm in the furniture business,” says owner Michael Dawidoff, who founded Furnishings Direct in 1998. “These days what you find in furniture stores is imported from the Far East. It can’t be modified and it’s made using foreign wood species, foreign chemicals in the glues and finishes, and very low paid factory workers. At Furnishings Direct we like to say that to us, made in the Far East means Vermont!”
