Valentine’s Day weekend: a time to celebrate your loved one and make that person feel special, whether it is going to a nice restaurant, buying flowers or even something simple, like taking a walk through the park. We're pretty sure we know someone else who would also quite enjoy that last one.
On Saturday, February 16, you can show your pup you care by going to the Paws FUR Pink 5k Run/Walk. The event benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure, which funds breast cancer research and prevention.
Located in Irvine Regional Park in Orange, this event promises fun for those on two legs as well as those on four. In addition to the 5k, dogs and their owners can also participate in the FURever Yours expo. This expo will contain a variety of booths, including pet products, contests, dog adoptions, and health information. You and your furry friend are free to roam this expo before, during and after the race.
Don’t feel like running that early? Not a problem! Paws FUR Pink is also offering a Dawdling Doodle walk. This one-mile excursion is led by a County of Orange park ranger and promises to be light on the legs. For those who are new to this beautiful park, the Dawdling Doodle walk might be just the thing to introduce you to the area while you enjoy the natural scenery.
If you’re feeling a little bit competitive, Paws FUR Pink has some options. First is the PAWsitively Pink Costume Contest. Dress yourself or your dog up in pink attire for a chance to win. And really, who doesn’t look great in pink?
More importantly, there is the Susan G. Komen $125 Fundraising Challenge. This challenge calls upon race participants to raise $125 — the average cost of a Komen-funded mammogram. Screenings like these are vitally important to the well-being of women worldwide because they help in early detection of cancerous tissues, allowing doctors to begin treatment early. By raising $125, participants are keeping the services Susan G. Komen offers available to women everywhere.
The Paws FUR Pink is a great way to contribute to your community and show your pooch that you care this Valentine’s Day weekend.
