Spend some time in the garden and learn about tomatoes at Tomatomania!, hosted by Roger’s Gardens.
In addition to hosting “the world’s largest (and most fun) tomato seeding sale,” the Corona Del Mar home and garden center will also be holding several workshops from Friday, March 7 through Sunday, March 9. These classes, open to the general public, will feature renowned horticulturists and garden experts.
Here's the schedule of events:
March 7-9, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Roger’s Gardens will be selling fertilizers, plant ties, stakes, and more than 150 varieties of heirloom and hybrid tomato seedlings. Expert growers will also be present to chat with guests.
Friday, March 7, 3 p.m. – “Your Guide to the Perfect Home Grown Tomatoes with Scott Daigre”
The first workshop of the series will feature Scott Daigre, the owner and producer of Tomatomania! His talk will introduce attendees to the basics of growing and harvesting tomatoes, the variety of tomato seedlings available for the home and how to grow tomatoes in containers.
Saturday, March 8, 9 a.m. – “Great Home Grown Tomatoes with Steve Goto”
Steve Goto, known throughout Southern California as the foremost expert on tomato varieties and home care and culture, will be offering advice on cultivating the perfect homegrown tomato.
Saturday, March 8, 3 p.m. – “Big Harvest, Small Space with David Rizzo”
Horticulturist David Rizzo will explain the secret to growing more vegetables in small garden spaces. His experience-based workshop will cover not only tips on growing tomatoes, but a large variety of other herbs and vegetables as well.
Sunday, March 9, 9 a.m. – “Vegetable Gardening with Steve Baldonado”
Garden designer Steve Baldonado will be giving tips on how to select, plant, grow, and harvest the best vegetables Southern California can grow. Emphasizing planning and strategy, Baldonado’s talk will explain how to maximize your home garden’s yield and cut down grocery costs.
