The first families have actually moved into homes in Brightwater adjacent to Huntington Beach, developed by California Coastal Communities following more than 30 years of controversy over the land which is part of the Bolsa Chica wetlands.

During the three decades of battles, environmentalists wanted no development in the area, owned by Signal Landmark.

Planned for 356 homes -- far reduced from the thousands of homes originally envisioned for the site, the first nine homes sold for an average of $1.2 million. An additional 14 homes have been completed.
