An 80-year-old landmark has been taken down in Newport Beach, but not to worry. Robins Hall tower, the classic symbol of Newport Harbor High School since its construction in 1928, had to be demolished a year ago because of earthquake concerns, but it is being replaced and will closely resemble the original.
Construction is underway on the new $53 million Robins Hall and Loats Theater Hall, designed to be a bold new landmark. The two-story complex will include a multipurpose theater building with music classrooms on the first floor and 12 science classrooms on the second floor.
Set to open late next year, the building will also have a theater wing with 500 seats, dressing rooms and scene storage space. The design, by LPA Architects, Irvine, will include a classic bell tower and an atrium.
